The best personal statements do not sound like anyone could have written them. They sound like exactly one person could have written them.

Start with a specific moment

Abstract claims ("I have always been passionate about...") are forgettable. A specific, concrete moment is not.

Let the reflection do the work

What happened matters less than what you understood because of it. Spend more words on the reflection than the anecdote itself.
